THE battle lines are drawn for the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Seeded clubs have to face-off with unseeded clubs in the Telkom Knockout tournament (TKO).
The draw took place on October 8 in Johannesburg for the round of 16 fixtures to determine which seeded club will take on the unseeded club in the TKO.
The 2018/19 campaign celebration also marks the 12-year sponsorship partnership between Telkom and PSL.
This year’s edition of the Telkom Knockout – #TKO2018 – promises to be exciting and rewarding for supporters.
PSL acting chief executive Mato Madlala said: “One of the most important things in today’s ever-changing world is to ensure that you remain close to the supporters, and show appreciation for their loyalty. Working with our sponsors, we have to constantly look at ways of staying in touch with those who passionately follow the beautiful game. We are thrilled at Telkom’s plans to bring this much-needed consumer engagement drive aimed at maintaining excitement for the game.”
“Soccer lovers are the true owners of the beautiful game,” said Braam Wessels, head of sponsorships at Telkom. “They’re fully immersed in the flow of the game whether by suggesting the starting line-up, which player to substitute or the tactics that should be employed on match day. Telkom is giving them an opportunity to also enjoy the feeling of pocketing prize money, and winning wonderful prizes for predicting the score during TKO matches.”
“The glory of the beautiful game is in the number of goals scored. The goals are what fuels the passion of many football lovers and bestow champion status on the team that wins all its matches. Naturally, as proud sponsors of the tournament, we would like to see more balls in the back of the net, and giving football fans an opportunity to walk away with prize money and multiple givebacks of their purchases during the campaign.”
Bidvest Wits were crowned the 2017/18 winners of the tournament. They will play their old foe Free State Stars away and this time around hope for a positive outcome.
Local sides, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates from the South, will take on Black Leopards and Chippa United playing at home.
The other fixtures are as follows with home side named first:
Amazulu FC vs Cape Town City; Mamelodi Sundowns vs Bloemfontein Celtic; Polokwane City vs SuperSport United; Maritzburg United vs Highlands Park and Baroka FC vs Golden Arrows.
