GAP College in Rispark was broken into

SMASHED: Many of the learners' play equipment was vandalised.

THE GAP College in Rispark was broken into on the evening of April 11, in spite of the school being on secure premises, behind a security gate and fully alarmed.

Founder and CEO, Dr Tracey Stewart, says the alarm system was damaged and the school doors were forced open.

“The locked inter-leading doors were similarly forced open and the schools’ big screen television and all related electrical equipment which provides the learners with their therapy, was stolen. It is clear the thieves were looking for money as the school safe was removed from the premises.

“Much of the school equipment, including the kitchen in which special dietary needs are prepared, and children’s toys, were vandalised. This could be purely an incident of theft but the deliberate acts of vandalism are more worrying,” Dr Stewart said.

“I’m grateful nobody was at school and that there was no one harmed in the incident. We will be stepping up our security even more now. My priority is the safety and security of my educators and learners. Material goods can be replaced. I would like to offer special thanks to all those who support The GAP College.”

Mondeor SAPS attended the scene and a case was opened.
