RESIDENTS have noted with concern that some drains are badly neglected in the Glenvista area, some which cause roads to flood in rainy weather.
“One in particular which always floods the road is on Donington Road, Glenvista Extension Four, in the dip just before Kamstra Street.
“Two weeks ago, after heavy downpours, the road became nearly impassable. As a precautionary measure I drove around a different route to work,” said a resident. “The drain is filled with weeds and rubbish and has been like this for ages,” he added.
Close by, on the corner of Selsey Road and Dalbini Drive, Mulbarton, a drain has been broken for quite some time.
“I sometimes wonder why we pay our municipal rates. I realise the ‘pot’ has to stretch to be able to fix everything which needs to be fixed, but what I don’t want is for our suburbs to end up looking as bad as some others not too far afield.
“As far as I am aware, if I own a freestanding property, I am charged monthly for municipal rates and taxes, which cover services provided by our local municipality. These services include sewerage facilities, road maintenance, street light maintenance and refuse collection. Where does our money go to then if some of these services are neglected?” asked a Mulbarton resident.
Local Ward 23 councillor Sarah Wissler was asked for comment but did not respond by the time of going to print.
