A BUSINESS situated in Alrode is changing lives in the community, one soccer match at a time.
Dieselman, a diesel fuel injection business in Alrode South, Extension 17, is helping local kids from the area by getting them off the streets and involved in playing soccer.
“The local kids always passed by our premises and asked for sweets. This progressed into one of them asking for a soccer ball and into us sponsoring a team of 15 kids with a soccer kit, soccer ball and organising for them to have matches against other teams,” said Charmaine Spies, acting spokesperson for the company.
“We approached St Martins Prep School in The Hill to help with donations of secondhand soccer boots as well as giving these kids the opportunity of playing friendly games against their students,” she added.
The team has since played against St Martins as well as the Alberton Christian Academy in Newmarket and have done quite well, especially considering they have no formal coaching on a regular basis.
If there is anyone who would like to get involved in this initiative, perhaps to help with coaching for instance, please contact Dieselman at 011 900 1081/2.
