Teams wanted for hospice action day

STEPPING Stone Hospice is looking for action cricket and volleyball teams to compete in the organisation’s first-ever “Hobo’s in Action” fun day, to be held at the Meyersdal Action Sports Arena on October 7.

In keeping with the theme of the day, players will play in ‘hobo’ gear and there will be exciting prizes for the winning teams, as well as a prize for the best-dressed team on the day. Each participant will also receive a medal.

“There’s space for both men as well as mixed-action cricket teams, plus volleyball teams,”said Stepping Stone Hospice’s fund-raising manager, Marietjie Tame. The cost per 10-member action cricket team is R1 000, while volleyball teams, comprising six players per team, will pay R700 to enter. Interested teams can contact AW Claassens at [email protected], for more information.

While teams compete in the action cricket and volleyball arenas, the fun will continue at the Under-Roof Market where unique arts, crafts and good food will be on sale. The designated kiddies’ area, complete with jumping castles, will also feature face painting and much more.

Prospective stallholders who would like to book a stall at the Under-Roof Market can contact Stepping Stone Hospice’s Marketing Manager, Kerry Johnston – [email protected]. Each stall area will measure 3m x 3m and renting a stall space will cost R200 for the day.

“This is set to be one of our biggest and most exciting fund-raisers of the year,” said Marietjie and also added that they haven’t forgotten about the rugby clash happening between the Springboks and All Blacks later that day. “Fans will be able to catch all the action on big screens in the bar area, so we invite people to come and spend the day with us.”
